Mountain House, Calif. — On July 1, 2024, the community of Mountain House officially became California’s newest city, marking a significant milestone in its development and governance. This change follows a strong endorsement from local residents, with an overwhelming 90.81% voting in favor of cityhood in a ballot initiative last March.
Located in San Joaquin County, approximately 16 miles from the city of Brentwood, Mountain House has seen its population swell to 27,032 residents as of 2023, up nearly 3,000 from the 2020 census. The push towards incorporation was driven by the community’s desire for more localized governance and the ability to better manage its resources and services.
The city will continue its existing contracts for essential services. Fire protection and emergency medical services will remain under the oversight of the French Camp McKinley Fire District, also known as the Mountain House Fire Department. Law enforcement will still be provided by the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office, with supplemental services from the California Highway Patrol for traffic-related issues.
Mountain House’s new status as a city also means taking over contracts for animal control and additional law enforcement services, ensuring that the needs of the growing community are met effectively.
To celebrate this historic transition, the city has planned a special incorporation acknowledgment and commemoration event. This will take place during the Independence Day Celebration on July 4, 2024, at Central Community Park. The event will feature Mayor Su, honorable council members, and other key figures who played significant roles in the city’s journey to incorporation.
Community members are invited to join the festivities, which will include honoring local elected officials, developers, vendors, and city staff who have contributed to Mountain House’s successful transition to California’s 483rd city. The celebration promises to be a momentous occasion, marking a new chapter in the city’s history as it embraces its new identity and the possibilities that come with it.
