A man accused of a deadly Stockton shooting that left one person dead and two others, including an infant, injured appeared in court for the first time on Tuesday. During the arraignment, the suspect, Sim Jackson, 39, made a surprising statement of guilt.

Jackson faces multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, assault with a firearm on a peace officer, and the intentional discharge of a firearm. The incident, which has shaken the Stockton community, involved a triple shooting that occurred earlier this month.

During the court proceedings, the judge read out Jackson's charges and asked him how he wanted to proceed with the case. Jackson responded simply, "Guilty."

The judge, however, was not prepared to accept a guilty plea at the arraignment and questioned Jackson further, asking if he wanted to consult with a lawyer given the potential severity of his sentence, which could include life in prison.

“I’ll talk to a lawyer but I’m definitely guilty,” Jackson replied.

The case will now move forward, and Jackson will be represented by legal counsel as the court determines the next steps. The charges against Jackson reflect the serious nature of the crime, which has drawn attention due to the involvement of an infant in the shooting.

The Stockton community remains on edge as the legal process unfolds, with many awaiting justice for the victims of this tragic incident.
