The iconic Sunset Theater in Lodi has officially changed hands, but the identity of its new owners remains a mystery. Announced on Thanksgiving, the sale marks the end of Terry Clark’s five-year effort to restore the historic venue into a vibrant entertainment hub.
Clark, who purchased the theater in 2020, had ambitious plans to breathe new life into the 70-year-old building. Despite years of vandalism, the theater retained its original projection equipment, seats, curtains, and concession stands. However, the renovations fell short of Clark's vision, and progress ceased in February 2023.
One memorable highlight from Clark's tenure occurred in May 2020 when a pristine red wallet, lost for nearly 60 years, was discovered during renovations. Clark tracked down the original owner, creating a heartwarming reunion that added to the theater’s rich history.
By December 2023, Clark announced his intention to sell the building. On Sunday, he confirmed to ABC10 that the sale was finalized with an unnamed trust. When asked about the decision to sell, Clark cited personal reasons and expressed gratitude for the community’s support during his ownership.
"I hope to see great things growing on the site," the Sunset Theater shared on its Facebook page.
While the new owners' plans remain uncertain, the sale ushers in a new chapter for the cherished landmark, which holds both historical and sentimental value for Lodi residents.
