Investigators have released an audit report that showed significant evidence of illegal financial activity. Here are a few quick things you need to know about the meeting.
- The audit reviewed 64 transactions the board made from July 2019 to April 2022
- It found that more than half had no purchase orders or any formal approval before the purchase was made.
- There was no competitive bidding or requests for proposals for 96% of them. Meaning there was no attempt to try and get the best deal.
- The audit mainly focused on the district's contract for air filter disinfectant technology, which the district paid over $7 million for in August 2021. However, a grand jury report discovered that only 800 filters of the 2,000 that had been ordered were installed.
- The school board now has less than two weeks to report to the superintendent about how they plan to respond.
Two things to take away from this is that there is evidence of illegal activity. The money given was for covid relief, and most would argue, it was for our Stocktonian students. We need people in our community and school board that want the best for SUSD. AngelAnn Flores seems to be open about bringing this to the D.A. All we can ask is that the right people are held accountable for their actions. The new school board has their work cut out for them and is going to try and clean this up. For more on the SUSD board meeting check out the Stocktonia. We will follow this as more evidence is presented but for now, stay vigilant Stockton.
