Elk Grove's nonprofit organizations are once again preparing for the annual Big Day of Giving (BOG), an online, 24-hour fundraising event scheduled for Thursday, May 4.

Organized by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, the BOG invites supporters to donate to their favorite nonprofits through its website.

Among this year's participants is Elk Grove Food Bank Services, which aims to raise funds for an additional truck to support its mobile food delivery programs. Executive director Marie Jachino shared the truck's importance in expanding the nonprofit's reach, especially for homebound individuals or those without transportation.

The Elk Grove Historical Society is also participating in the BOG, with a fundraising goal of $8,000. The funds will be used to support school days at the historic Rhoads School in Elk Grove Regional Park, as well as to finance repairs and improvements to the school's facilities.

Project R.I.D.E., a local therapeutic horseback riding program for students with disabilities, seeks to raise at least $30,000 during the BOG. Community outreach manager Emily Calanchini said the funds would be directed towards tuition assistance, scholarships, and other aspects of the program.

The Senior Center of Elk Grove is also taking part in the BOG, with a goal to raise $25,000. Executive director Christine Cuddy revealed the funds would be used to purchase equipment, support art projects, and create a library area for the center.

Chicks in Crisis, another participating nonprofit, aims to raise $50,000. The organization plans to use the donations to stock their recently acquired mobile unit with essentials like diapers, wipes, and formula, enabling them to reach an additional 2,000 people per year.
