Stocktonian of the year is a high honor held among the city’s residents. This is someone who has gone above and beyond just being a citizen but someone who has helped in the community. The Stocktonian of the Year title is awarded each year by the chamber and the Central Valley Association of Realtors. Patrick Duffy was selected for this honor and here is how it was presented:
Duffy is a Valley Strong Credit Union chief advocacy officer
Occeletta Briggs who is a close friend of Duffy nominated him for the award.
"He has helped everyone in Stockton that I know of," said Occeletta Briggs
Briggs has known Duffy and his father since she came to Stockton in the 1960s, joking that her customer number at their credit union is one.
“In 2020 amid the pandemic, Duffy's family fund and the Financial Center Credit Union donated $1 million to Stockton Strong, a group aimed at coordinating local organizations' COVID-19 responses.”
Duffy has been a part of and served as president of the St. Mary's Interfaith Dining Room and as a member of the Stockton Diocese Finance Council, the St. Joseph's Hospital board.
"We're just looking for someone who really had a heart for Stockton," said Timm Quinn, CEO of the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce. For more on this story check out Jada Portillo’s report.
