Break out your favorite superhero costume! StocktonCon, the popular comic convention, is set to make its triumphant return for the 11th year at the Stockton Arena, 248 W. Fremont St., and it's going to be super.Taking place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, the event is expected to welcome thousands of attendees. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase action figures, comic books, Funko Pops, and interact with their favorite celebrities and comic book creators.

"It's just a fun time, and that's what we try to bring to people," said Mike Millerick, founder and president of StocktonCon Events. The event also carries a philanthropic edge, with part of the proceeds being donated to the Child Abuse Prevention Council. To date, StocktonCon has raised nearly $200,000 for local charities.

The convention's origin can be traced back to Millerick's childhood love for comics, sparked by colorful racks of comic books he'd see while grocery shopping with his mother. Years later, as an adult attending comic book conventions, he conceived the idea to bring a similar celebration of pop culture to Stockton. What started as an anticipated small event in 2012, attracting nearly 4,000 fans in its debut, has grown into a local tradition drawing in thousands.

The convention offers a heartfelt charm, seeing children interact with their favorite characters brings joy to Millerick. "Seeing a son or daughter look up at their mom or dad, and let's say they were taking a photo with Spider-Man ... just to see that look of wonder on their face, it's a cool thing to see," he said.

The two-day event promises to be bustling with over 200 actors, artists, exhibitors, and wrestlers. Star guests include Patrick Fabian known for "Better Call Saul" and "Grey's Anatomy", Edward James Olmos of "Battlestar Galactica" and "Miami Vice", and Tara Reid from "American Pie".

A notable highlight is the costume contest, offering cash prizes for the most impressive outfits, with categories for adults and children. Additionally, a dedicated gaming area hosted by Manteca-based card shop and retro video game store, The War Torn Front, will offer collectible card gaming events and free coloring.

With tickets available on Ticketmaster and at the Stockton Arena Box Office on event days, this fun-filled weekend of comics and pop culture is accessible to all, with children 12 and under admitted free with a paying adult. This year's StocktonCon promises to be a memorable experience for comic fans of all ages.
